Kanye West Claims Record-Breaking Turnout at Istanbul Concert

(MENAFN) American rapper and producer Kanye West, also known as Ye, has stated that his first-ever concert in Türkiye attracted an unprecedented crowd of 118,000 people, which he described as the largest audience ever assembled for a stadium performance. The event marked the opening stop of his first European tour in more than a decade and took place amid the cancellation of several planned appearances across European Union countries.

The concert was held Saturday at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium. West also claimed that the event generated approximately $100 million in tourism-related revenue for the city, according to reports.

The artist has remained a controversial figure in recent years because of anti-Semitic comments and references to Nazi Germany made in both his music and public statements. Earlier this year, an apology published on his behalf attributed some of those remarks to untreated bipolar disorder, but the statement did little to reduce public criticism.

Despite the controversies, reports indicated that thousands of fans traveled to Istanbul from a wide range of countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, and several nations across the Middle East to attend the performance.

Addressing the crowd during the event, West celebrated the turnout, saying:

“I just want to tell y’all, we just broke the record, 118,000, largest stadium performance of all time.”

The concert represented a significant milestone in West’s return to European live performances, coming after multiple planned appearances elsewhere in Europe encountered difficulties or were canceled amid ongoing backlash over his past remarks and public controversies.

According to reports, the Istanbul event demonstrated that despite continued criticism and restrictions affecting some of his scheduled appearances, West retains a substantial international fan base willing to travel long distances to attend his performances.
